This web site is for Tompkins County residents who want information about the new smokefree workplaces law in NYS. The Clean Indoor Air Act (Public Health Law Section 1399-o) prohibits smoking in public and work places to protect employees and the public from secondhand smoke. The law went into effect statewide on July 24, 2003.
