In a tax-base sharing system, local jurisdictions cooperate within a region to pool and redistribute part of the increase in tax revenues generated by new development. Tax-base sharing can help to reduce competition among jurisdictions for fiscally desirable development, and encourage more efficient development patterns that benefit the region as a whole.
