In order to improve housing and better maintain neighborhoods
for low-income residents, communities can choose to enhance utilities
and services in specific neighborhoods that have a large supply
of low-income housing and/or provide infrastructure for new developments
with affordable housing. Types of services that can be enhanced
in existing neighborhoods include: transit service, street maintenance,
and sewer, water and road improvements. Local governments can
choose to bear the financial burden of paying for infrastructure
costs for new developments that meet specific affordable housing
requirements.
