Communities can encourage certain types of development (e.g.,
affordable housing, traditional neighborhood designs, or designs
that are energy efficient, ecologically sensitive, or pedestrian
friendly), by providing educational materials to developers when
they first call to inquire about municipal laws and/or availability
of property. Highlighting certain educational materials during
a developer's initial contact with a municipality can set the
tone early in the development review process of what is expected
of a developer and what is valued in that community.
