Expanding farm businesses to include agri-tourism opportunities
can provide additional income to help keep farms financially sound.
Examples of agri-tourism businesses are: roadside stands, you-cut
Christmas tree plantations, you-pick fruit orchards, and farm
bed and breakfasts.
Regional tourism planning is a key component to having a successful
agri-tourism industry, since it reduces duplication among different
tourism programs within a region, combines the financial resources
of the different groups to provide cost-effective development
and marketing, and promotes a greater diversity of attractions
for visitors. Regional planning can combine the resources of agri-tourism
businesses, farm festivals, farmers markets, and other agricultural
resources and package them together for visitors.
