An important aspect of maintaining a viable farming and agricultural
industry is recruiting new talent. Since the United States is
no longer primarily a country of rural farmers, education about
farming and other agricultural careers is important for developing
interest in the business.
Training programs, internships, and apprenticeships can be created
at the high school and college level. A "new farmer entry
program" can be created that matches experienced farmers
with interested new and younger farmers.
General education on the importance of local farming, its relation
to the local food supply, land management, and the environment,
can be integrated into classroom studies, as well as the focus
of community days that allow non-farmers to visit active farms
and learn about agricultural production.
