Welcome to the 2012-2013 Sustainability Internship Program! The Sustainability Internship Program was launched in the Fall 2011 by the Tompkins County Planning Department as a pilot feature of The Sustainability Center. Over the course of the past year, the Sustainability Internship Program successfully matched students from area colleges with local businesses and organizations, supporting the advancement of community sustainability. While the Sustainability Internship Program was getting underway, our local leaders were successful in partnering with the Park Foundation to fund the start-up of The Sustainability Center. Haven’t heard of The Sustainability Center before? That’s because we’re new! If you’ve ever tried to navigate the spectacular sea of sustainability-focused businesses, non-profits and events in our area, perhaps you’ve been inspired, but a little overwhelmed. The Sustainability Center will help you find your way! Our mission: The Sustainability Center will create, in the center of the community, a physical space from which to promote community-wide sustainability efforts in Tompkins County, through public engagement, service learning, and partnership with local green businesses, non-profits and leaders in the field. So, when can you use this new resource?! The Sustainability Center will open to the public in February 2013! Stay tuned for details and plan to check out our sustainability gallery and programming! We’ll keep you posted as we progress. In the meantime, we’ll help match students with compatible skills and experience with local green businesses and organizations in need of assistance in the Sustainability Internship Program! During your participation in the Sustainability Internship Program, we are asking that HOSTS and STUDENTS commit to the following: 1) Participation in one Introductory Meeting / Orientation; 2) Completion of one pre- and one post-internship survey; 3) On-going communication between host supervisor and student intern and lastly 4) Participation in a Celebration Event at the end of the semester honoring and showcasing projects completed through the program. The Sustainability Internship Program will match students with businesses and organizations with compatible needs and skills, so please do not contact them until we recommend doing so. Feel free to call or email me directly should you have questions or concerns. Warm Regards, The Sustainability Center Steering Committee: Spring 2013 Placement OpportunitiesPlease submit your RESUME and a COVER LETTER for each position of interest to
