Most Civil Service positions are competitive in nature

To be eligible for a permanent appointment:

• you must meet the minimum qualifications;
• fill out the Tompkins County application form;
• take a civil service test;
• score among the top three; and
• sucessfully interview

For non-competitive or labor positions all you need to do is:

• meet the minimum qualifications and
• interview sucessfully.
