Tompkins County Affirmative Action and Workforce Diversification Programs

Vision:

Tompkins County will be seen as a place where any resident will be welcomed to live and prosper.  Tompkins County government, as an employer, shall represent the diverse population of the county and strive to be inclusive without regard to real or perceived race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex/gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, status as a disabled veteran or Vietnam era veteran, or status as an ex-offender.  Tompkins County government shall be a place where individuals may seek employment opportunities, advancement and career opportunities and its work force will include and represent the diverse population of the county.
 

Mission:

The Tompkins County Community Affirmative Action Committee works for policies, procedures and practices to be adopted and enforced by county government, as an employer, that will result in the recruitment, civil service reachability and retention in the employment of affirmative action protected class groups.
 

Goals:

1. Develop a clear picture of what our county workforce and applicant pool look like in comparison to county demographics

2. Work with Department Heads, Supervisors and their staff to communicate the mission, vision and goals of the Community Affirmative Action Committee

3. Recruit the full complement of 10 voting Community Affirmative Action Committee members

4. Increase community knowledge of the mission and vision of the Community Affirmative Action Committee

5. The Affirmative Action Committee will act as a resource to the Board of Representatives and all County Departments on Affirmative Action related issues
