News Details - Petition Process Underway

As of June 7, the Petition process for the fall elections is now underway.

Designating Petitions are passed for candidates seeking the nomination of an officially recognized party. In New York these are the Democratic, Republican, Conservative, Working Families, Independence, and Green parties. (The Green Party, though, will use Certificates of Nomination issued by the State Party this year.)

Designating Petitions can be signed as of June 7th. They can be filed at the Board of Elections from July 11 to July 14.

Independent Nominating Petitions are passed for candidates who want to run under the name of a party that is not officially recognized in New York. These can be signed starting July 12 and are filed from August 16 to August 23.

Candidate Packets are available at the Board containing information and both electronic and hard copies of most of the paperwork and information needed for running for office.

The Primary Election is scheduled for September 13, and the General Election is November 8.

The Board of Elections is located at 128 E. Buffalo Street, Ithaca, NY, and open M-F 8:30 – 4:30. Commissioners Elizabeth W. Cree (R) or Stephen M. DeWitt (D) can be reached at 607-274-5522.
