2009 STANDING COMMITTEES:

Public Safety (Vice Chair)
Facilities and Infrastructure

Mike Sigler is a first-term Legislator who, when it comes to spending, brings a conservative viewpoint to County government. An advocate for responsible tax cuts, Sigler will work for a better system of evaluating program effectiveness. His top priorities will be adequate support for the Sheriff’s Office and for highways and other crucial public infrastructure.

Through his committee appointments – he serves on the Budget Committee and is Vice Chair of the Government Operations Committee – Sigler will pursue his goals of tightening the County’s fiscal limits and focusing on policy issues rather than micromanaging operations. Sigler has said he would like to see County government hold its property tax levy increases to the rate of inflation or less.

Sigler grew up in Sparta, New Jersey and moved to upstate New York in 1996 for a job as an on-air reporter. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, and received a Masters Degree from the Columbia School of Journalism. He was a news reporter/anchor until 2002, when he ran as the Republican candidate for the New York State Assembly. Sigler works for Park Outdoor Advertising, has served on the New York State Parks Commission, and is a member of the Ithaca Sunrise Rotary. He lives in Lansing with his wife, Sarah Preston-Sigler, step-son Jamison, and one-year-old daughter Avery.

Legislators are elected and serve for four years. Current terms run from 2006 through 2009.
