Mike Koplinka-Loehr was elected to the County Legislature in 1997 and has been Chair since Janaury, 2008. For the three years prior to that, he was a member of the Ithaca City School Board. A veteran of local not-for-profits, Koplinka-Loehr served as administrator of youth organizations, a human rights project, and other community service organizations. An Ithaca native and Cornell graduate, Koplinka-Loehr’s focus on the Legislature includes increasing public participation in government, educating the public about the Legislature’s mission and vision, and supporting the County’s continuing efforts to improve quality. As 1999-2003 chair of the Government Operations Committee and the liaison to the Tompkins County Affirmative Action Committee in 2000-2001, one of Koplinka-Loehr’s goals has been to find ways to increase diversity in the County workforce. Mike served as Chair of the Budget Committee for 3 years, including the Community Advisory Panel. Koplinka-Loehr also chaired the Tompkins 2020 Committee during 2000-2002 that established an all-citizens group to determine what quality-of-life issues matter most to people in Tompkins County. Koplinka-Loehr and his family live in Ithaca’s Forest Home neighborhood and he jogs through his district almost every day. |
