Carol Chock was elected on December 18, 2007. She brings to the County Legislature a strong background in city and regional planning, fundraising, grant writing, as well as a history of civic involvement to the position.
A 40-year resident of Tompkins County and graduate of Cornell University with a Masters degree in city and regional planning, Carol is currently employed as Associate Director of Foundation Relations for Cornell University, and also acts as a private consultant and grant writer. Her previous experience includes membership on the Tompkins County Strategic Tourism Planning Board (STPB), where she led the development of the Board’s 2005 Strategic Plan and a redesign of the evaluation process for the STPB’s 12 grant programs, and where she served as a member of the STPB Educational Linkage Committee. In addition, she has served on local and regional organizations such as the Ithaca Community Self-Reliance Center, Ithaca Women Against Rape (a pre-cursor to Ithaca Rape Crisis and the Advocacy Center), Ecology Action of Tompkins County, Tompkins County Cooperative Extension Home Economics Program Committee, and the Ithaca Community Childcare Center Board.
While associated with the Ithaca Community Childcare Center, she conceived and helped bring forward to fruition the nation’s first purpose-built daycare center as a partnership involving the parent-run board, Cornell University, foundations, and corporations.
Carol looks forward to continuing to promote community discussions on a wide spectrum of issues and seeking creative ways to realize projects through formulation of plans of action.
Carol lives in the City with her husband, Paul Mazzarella. Their four children attended Ithaca Schools.
