Religious Structures of Groton
The Methodist Episcopal Society was incorporated July 18, 1836, by the Rev. L. K. Redington and Justus P. Pennoyer. The first building, located on the west side of Church Street, was completed and dedicated in 1842. It was burned down as a practice for fire fighters in the 1960s when the Baptist, Methodist, and Congregational Churches joined to become a single congregation housed in the building now known as the Groton Community Church. (This picture is taken from an early 1900s postcard.)
