Religious Structures of Groton
Rev. Benjamin Whipple held meetings as early as 1805. In 1824 a group of 33 met in the schoolhouse and organized as the Baptist Church of Christ of Moscow. The name of the community was changed in 1824 to McLean. In July 1827, the name of the church became the Baptist Church in McLean. The church to seat 300 people was erected in 1828 at a cost of $1,500. Located at 44 Church Street in McLean, this church is now known as McLean Community Church.
