Religious Structures of Dryden
United Methodist Church
2 North Street, Dryden

By 1798, Methodist meetings were being held in cabins and barns to the west of the Village in Willow Glen, preached by circuit riders. By 1831 a group in Dryden had formed the First Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Dryden Village. The first pastor was hired and the first building was erected in 1832 on ¼ acre of land purchased for $325 in the NE corner of the Village Green block at the Village Corners. The imposing wooden two story building, with a great spire atop was built for $2650. While being repaired forty years later in 1873, it burned.
The following year, the current building, also wooden and seating 300, in the Romanesque Revival-style and with a great spire, was started at the same site and was completed in 1876. In 1934, a grand pipe organ was purchased for $3000. The large complimenting two-story addition was added on the north side of the church in 1992-93.
