Snyder Hill Free Will Baptist Church
586-94 Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca

The Free Will Baptist Church was organized in 1824. Meetings were held in the local district school until the present building was constructed in 1856 on lands donated by the pioneer Snyder family. In 1915, stained glass windows were installed, subscribed at a cost of $300. The next year, money was raised to purchase a bell. By 1948 it was known as the Snyder Hill Baptist Church. The horse sheds in the rear were removed. In 1956, two government surplus buildings were purchased and moved to the site, one for classrooms and the other for a parsonage. And the following year, a two story addition was made on the rear of the church. In 1958, the Church withdrew from the Baptist groups and became an independent church. After 1973, attendance starting dropping and in 1981 the last pastor was left even without trustees or church officers. He was granted a quit claim deed and in 1983, the church was transferred to the University Church of Christ, which lasted only about one year. Then one family took control and allowed no one on the property, to the great consternation of the descendents of the first donating Snyders and the local neighbors.
