Religious Structures of Dryden

Holy Cross Church
375 George Road, Freeville
Holy Cross Church
The first Catholic mass in Dryden was held in 1947 in the upper level at 6 East Main Street, now owned by the Dryden Rental Co. Two years later, Christ Chapel at George Junior Republic was offered to the Catholic Mission for their use. The last Mass was held there in 1986. A parish center was built in 1961 by the Dryden Catholic Mission on the Freeville road near the Dryden High School. (This was sold in 1988). In 1961, The Church’s name was changed to Holy Cross Parish. After acquiring 26 acres of farm land on George Road, by 1969 the parish community had raised $100,000 in their building fund. The present center was built and the next year the Church and Rectory were completed. In 1992 Fellowship Hall, containing a large meeting room, kitchen and classrooms, was added.
