Etna Community Baptist Church
1 Upper Creek Road, Etna

The First Baptist Church of Dryden was organized in 1804 when Etna was known as Miller’s Settlement and next it was called Columbia. A log building was constructed near the cemetery on the bend of Lower Creek Road, on a lot costing $2, and when sawn lumber became available, it was replaced with a clapboard building. In 1830, the present site was donated and an imposing wooden church was built, probably in the Greek Revival style, next door to the Methodist Church. In 1880 it was completely remodeled to its more Victorian appearance. In 1920, land was purchased in the rear and a large addition was added. Because steeplejacks got to be rare and costly, when the steeple needed work, it was replaced with a fiberglass spire. At an early date, the name was changed to the Etna Community Church. In 2004, a great 200th Anniversary party was held. This Church was the first religious society in the Town of Dryden and has the honor of being it’s oldest continuously operating church.
