Religious Structures of Dryden
Covenant Love Community Church & School
1768 Dryden Road, Freeville

With encouragement and guidance from youthful thirty-year-old Scott Ross (who was a NYC disc jockey for the Christian Broadcasting Network on FM radio,) this religious group was incorporated in the late 1960s as Jesus People, Inc in the 120 year old tumbling-down Hamblin-Williams-Hardesty barn on the Dryden-Ithaca Road. Next its name was changed to become the hippie era’s Love-Inn and it was a gathering place for all faiths of mostly young people. The Christian school was slowly started in 1974. Often the barn also was an evening coffeehouse, with singing and guitar playing. Dormitories were built for the young volunteers who came for stretches of time to do the hard renovation work.

By 1979, the name was changed to the current Covenant Love Community Church. The school caused for extensive renovations to happen to the old structure. A large playground was built. Some years there were nearly 100 daily school students, in K-8, with may different religious affiliations. Also, for a ten year period in the 1980s there was a very active theatre production group housed here. The church continues to expand and to improve its grounds.
