Religious Structures of Caroline

St Thomas Episcopal Church in Slaterville Springs is one of the two churches in town on the National Historic Register. The other is St. Johns Episcopal Church in Speedsville. The third town building on the Register is the Caroline Town Hall, formerly the Slaterville School. St. Thomas congregation originally met at the Slaterville School. The church was built in 1894, three years after the Episcopal Society of Slaterville was formed. The church, with classic gothic revival architecture and painted in it’s original Victorian Era colors, features beautiful stained glass windows donated by and in memory of various parishioners such as Moses Bull, Mrs. Mary Tobey and Mrs. William Speed. Records show 30 registered members in 1910 and 38 registered members today, with about 20 people in attendance on an average Sunday.
