THIS BRIDGE IS CLOSED.
This project would build a bridge that is usable for heavy and emergency
traffic on or near Red Mill Road, between Freeville and McLean, in the
Town of Dryden. The existing bridge on Red Mill Road is narrow and
was posted for 5 tons prior to closure. It is a 120-foot span truss
that was built in 1887. Lack of funding and concerns of the
State Historic Preservation Office have delayed construction. The
County is now investigating new funding options.
Funding: To be determined.
Budgeted County Share: To be determined.
Status: The bridge was closed on December 8, 2005, due
to extensive deterioration. County and Town of Dryden to strategize
on resuming replacement design to position the project for alternate funding.
The preferred design would build a modern bridge at the existing location
and relocate and restore the old bridge at a park in the Village of Freeville.
Schedule: Select preferred alternative in 2010.
