(Jan 20 09) Renovation of a new headquarters for the Tompkins County Health Department moved another step forward, as the Legislature awarded $4.2 million dollars in construction contracts to renovate the facilities at 55 Brown Road.
(Apr 1 08) The Legislature, by a vote of 11-3 approved the firm of Labella Associates, P.C. of Rochester to provide architectural and engineering design services for renovation of the building at 55 Brown Road as offices for the County Health Department, at a cost not to exceed $500,000.
(Jan 15 08) After more than an hour of reflective and sometimes emotional discussion, the Legislature by a vote of 11- 4 gave the go-ahead for the County to acquire facilities at 55 Brown Road in the Village of Lansing for a new headquarters for the Tompkins County Health Department.
(Jan 2 08) Consultant Kevin Marren, of the firm LaBella Associates, presented to the Legislature the latest conceptual drawings for the planned site for a new headquarters for the Tompkins County Health Department, located at 55 Brown Road in the Village of Lansing. After hearing Mr. Marren’s report late last month, the Health Department Building Construction Committee, with dissent of one member (Health Department employee Cindy Schulte), advised that, considering construction/renovation, including potential additions, the facility would be adequate to meet the Health Department’s present and future needs.
(Dec 21 07) After reviewing a consultant’s latest building evaluation and conceptual drawings, the County’s Health Department Building Construction Committee has endorsed the further legislative consideration of the planned site at 55 Brown Road in the Village of Lansing for a new Health Department headquarters.
(Oct 17 07) Legislature Chair Tim Joseph announced that he has charged a new advisory committee with guiding design and renovation of a new county Health Department headquarters on Brown Road in the Village of Lansing. The committee, chaired by County Planning and Public Works Commissioner Ed Marx and made up of legislators, department managers, Health Department and Public Works staff, will participate in selection of a design team, then will work with that team to ensure that the building meets the needs of programs, staff and public who will use the building.
(Sept 19 07) The Legislature, by a split vote and after considerable discussion, authorized the County to issue $3.5 million in serial bonds to support costs related to acquisition of property at 55 Brown Road, in the Cornell University Business and Technology Park, for the county’s new Health Department headquarters.
(Aug 8 07) Tompkins County will remodel existing space, rather than building new, to provide a new headquarters for the county’s Health Department.
The County Legislature discussed site alternatives in a more than hour-long executive session and authorized County Administrator Steve Whicher to complete an evaluation and negotiate the purchase of a building at 55 Brown Road, located in the Village of Lansing, from its current owner, Cornell Real Estate, including completion of an environmental impact review.
(Jun 19 07) Giving the Legislature its first look at options for a new Health Department Building, the committee that has been studying the matter for the past six months told legislators it should decide whether to construct a new building on county-owned land near the current Biggs complex or move the department to existing facilities, at the New York State Electric and Gas building on Route 13 in Dryden.
(Jun 14 07) The County Legislature next Tuesday will be presented two potential site alternatives – but no recommendation yet – regarding future headquarters for the county’s Health Department.
After a more than two-hour executive session today, the county’s Health Department Building Committee, which has been examining the matter since the beginning of the year, decided to present to the full Legislature two alternate location options which the committee believes deserve serious consideration.
