Bolton Point Water Clinches Top Honors at 2008 Tompkins County Taste Test

Health Department staff served up tasting samples from seven area water systems during Water Week 2007 festivities at the Farmers' Market. (The weather for the 2008 event was more friendly!) The event is co-hosted be the Tompkins County Health Department and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County.

Over 250 people offered their opinions on the taste of water supplied by 7 municipal water treatment plants within Tompkins County, with Bolton Point Water System receiving the highest number of favored votes. The Tompkins County Health Department in conjunction with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County held the Tompkins County water taste test at the Ithaca Farmer's market on Saturday.

This friendly competition is put on to recognize all of the water treatment plants for the work they do to provide safe potable drinking water to the residents of Tompkins County.

Fifty-three people said Bolton Point has the best tasting water in the county, beating six other participating water treatment plants.

The Trumansburg water treatment plant and the Village of Groton water plant tied for second at 46 votes each. In no particular order, Cornell, Dryden, City of Ithaca and Newfield water treatment plants comprised the remainder of the field.

The Bolton Point water treatment plant will now represent our county in an upcoming regional competition held by the New York State Department of Health.
