PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson announced today that Bradley H. Brown, age 36, entered guilty pleas in Tompkins County Court this afternoon just prior to opening statements in his trial alleging multiple felonies arising from a home invasion burglary and assault in Lansing last October.

Bradley H. Brown, whose last known address is Elmira, New York, was in Tompkins County Court for trial, before Hon. Judith A. Rossiter.  Opening statements were about to begin when Mr. Brown entered guilty pleas to one count of Burglary in the First Degree, two counts of Kidnapping in the Second Degree, one Count of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree and one count of Assault in the Second Degree.

Mr. Brown admitted to breaking into the residence, sexually abusing the female victim, assaulting the male victim with a wrench, abducting both victims by binding them with electrical cords, and stealing money before leaving the victims tied up in the house.  The female victim was able to shimmy up a flight of stairs while still bound and reach sewing scissors. She cut her bonds, freed her husband and called 911.

Mr. Brown was apprehended in the City of Elmira on October 17, 2010 and has entered a guilty plea to one count of Menacing a Police Officer in Chemung County, where he is pending sentencing.  Mr. Brown agreed to 20 years of incarceration to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision as part of the plea agreement.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation with the assistance of  New York State Police Troop C, New York State Police Troop E, Elmira Police Department and the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department who all assisted in the investigation and apprehension of Mr. Brown.  Defendant was represented by Ithaca attorney Kevin Kelly.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Andrew M. McElwee.  Defendant was remanded to Tompkins County jail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for September 14, 2011 before Hon. Judith A. Rossiter.
