EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES

Effective:    January 12, 1981 02-07

Objective:            To establish limits on the employment of relatives

Definitions:          Relative: Mother*, Father*, spouse, spouse equivalent, sister*, brother*, son*, daughter*, Stepmother, Stepfather, grandparent, or parent of spouse or spouse equivalent, *includes in-laws

Policy of the Board of Representatives:

1.         No employee may supervise or be supervised by a relative directly or indirectly.  EXAMPLES: 1) No employee of a department may be related to the department head. 2) An employee in Unit A of a department may be related to the Director of Unit B, provided the Director has no supervisory responsibility over Unit A.

2.         Relatives of members of the Mental Health Services Board, the Public Health Board and the Assigned Counsel Board may not be employed in the respective departments.

3.         Any exceptions to the above required to fill job titles must have approval of the Board committee responsible for the personnel function prior to employment or appointment.
