County
Code, Chapter 72, Article I prohibits smoking in any County-owned
or occupied buildings or vehicles. The New York State Clean Indoor
Air Act (Public Health Law Section 1399-o) and County Code, Chapter
72, Article II, prohibit smoking in places of employment, restaurants
and, taverns to protect employees and the public from second-hand
smoke.In compliance with state and local laws, smoking, or carrying
a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, or any other form of smoking object
or device, is not permitted by any employee, official, client, or
the public in any County building, vehicle, mobile equipment, any
means of transportation operated by the County, and any other areas
where the use of tobacco is prohibited by fire codes or State Regulations. |
| Procedure:
|
Signage (stickers) will be maintained at entrances of all County-owned
buildings indicating a smoke-free area within 30 feet from the
building. The intent is to provide smoke-free entryways, pedestrian
walkways, and adjacent seating areas for County employees or for
the public engaging in County business. |
