OUR NEW LOGO!

Diversity Consortium Selects a New Logo

Since 2003 the Diversity Consortium of Tompkins County has utilized a piece of Microsoft clip art as their logo. Towards the end of May the Consortium sent out an email requesting logo proposals from college students and a few resident artists. Not satisfied with the few responses the Consortium did recieve, a logo contest among summer camps in Tompkins County emerged.

The contest would not only yield a new logo for the Consortium but it would also act as a catalyst for a creative dialog around diversity and inclusiveness with the youth of Tompkins County. The artist of the winning design would not only gain personal recognition and noted appreciation from the Consortium, but an ice cream social for the entire camp. The design itself had to include the letters "DCTC" or "Diversity Consortium of Tompkins County" and represent the concept of diversity and inclusiveness.

The contest deadline on July 15th, 2005 produced entries from two day camps in Tompkins County. Cass Park Day Camp and Dryden Community Day Camp. A small committee from the Consortium reviewed all the entries and selected four finalists. Among the four finalists were, Ashley Ebel age 11, Kayla Lane age 13, Lille Truman age 8, and Andrew Woods-Esty age 7. The three young ladies were all from the Dryden Community Camp and the young man was from Cass Park Day Camp.

All of the Diversity Consortium members had an opportunity to vote on the four finalists rendering of a logo, and in the end they selected the drawing from Andrew Woods-Esty.

Andrew Woods-Esty, 7, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Mayor Carolyn Peterson, Lynette Chappell-Williams of the Diversity Consortium, and Cass Park Day Camp Director Clarence Welch on August 5, 2005. Woods-Esty, a camper, won an ice cream social for the entire camp with his submission for the new Diversity Consortium of Tompkins County logo.

The ice cream was donated by the Cornell Dairy.
