Description
We are looking for a dynamic Human Resources Director to lead the human resource function for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), a community of over 2,000 staff and faculty.  The Director of Human Resources for CALS will lead a team of sixteen human resources professionals in a variety of initiatives including the design and implementation of human resources programs, policies, practices and procedures to ensure the recruitment, development, and retention of a highly qualified, diverse, and effective workforce in the CALS, which includes the Geneva Agriculture Experiment Station and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

CALS is the second largest undergraduate college at Cornell University and the third largest college of its kind in the United States. In national surveys, we rank as the best college of agriculture and related sciences in the country.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement strategies and activities to strengthen organizational effectiveness, climate, and employee and labor relations within a complex, diverse, and dynamic environment of academic departments, administrative units and large enterprise units.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and execution of human resource policies and programs including oversight of college HR operations/reporting as well as accountability for College payroll operations, and reporting and tracking
  • Serve as member of the college’s management group and as a member of Cornell University’s Vice President for Human Resources management staff.
  • Act as a senior advisor to the Deans, Department Chairs and Directors providing leadership and direction for organizational change and development.
  • Act as a representative of the college community on matter of university policy and practice.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management with 7-10 years of human resources experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven success with human resources management skills, including experience in development and delivery of training, dispute resolution, facilitation, organizational development, and program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to orchestrate organizational change and development.  Proven ability to productively network with college and university constituencies and to work effectively with a broad workforce, including faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to provide immediate response to urgent issues including meeting with college deans, developing immediate and effective communications, and attending facilitative and problem solving meetings; participate in department activities throughout the college; and represent college at forums and meetings across campus and off-campus.
  • Proven clear and effective written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills and a philosophy of teamwork are required.
  • Effective supervisory and financial management skills.
  • Proven analytical skills and experience executing training programs.
  • PHR or SPHR certification is preferred or ability to obtain within two years of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in human resources management, organizational development or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in the field of higher education desirable.

Investment Analyst

Description
Cornell's Investment Office manages the University's investable assets, including the endowment and other funds totaling approximately $5 billion. The Investment Office seeks to hire an individual as Investment Analyst. This position, working under the direction of Investment Officers and Senior Analysts, will provide the analyst with hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn about and work with a wide variety of asset classes on a rotating basis throughout the office. Provide research, analysis, and support to the investment team. Responsible for compiling and analyzing data which will be used to support investment decisions. Design and present reports. Assist in managing one or more asset classes in the investment portfolio. Work with Investment Officer/Senior Analyst to ensure that investment performance in assigned asset classes is measured accurately and that appropriate benchmarks are used. Maintain and enhance reporting and performance systems. Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associate's degree and at least 2 years related experience, or equivalent combination is required.

Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Knowledge of investment terminology and financial mathematics is essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be adept at data gathering and financial analysis.
  • Must be able to work independently and produce highly accurate work on complex projects.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet software required.
  • Some travel required.

Physical Education Office Assistant Position #06409
Physical Education Department

Job Description
Assist with administrative duties for the Physical Education Department.  Provide administrative support for the Director of Physical Education and two Assistant Directors.  Duties include completing all administrative aspects of the physical education registration, including rosters, course enrollment, billing, student grading, course handouts, and all room scheduling.  Ability to handle confidential student information, including: academic, financial and medical information.  Excellent communication and customer service skills required.  Must be a self-starter, extremely organized and have the ability to multi-task in a very busy two person office, with heavy student traffic.

Job Qualifications

-        Formal training beyond high school of 1-2 years, Associate Degree preferred
-        Minimum of 1-2 years experience in similar employment setting
-        Excellent communication skills and diplomacy required to interact with students, staff, and faculty
-        Must be proficient with computer (Word, Excel, Filemaker) and knowledgeable of University's student information system and Oracle, preferred
-        Must be able to effectively prioritize and distribute work
