Survey 1: Easy to use, instructions clear, good system for recount.
Survey 2: For the blind it is very hard to get to “space” and if you press” back” it takes you back to previous page. A keyboard would be easier. When the ballots are put through we should be able to see what is being recorded as my vote.
Survey 3: Automark rocks! I tried audio it’s pretty fast and the controls are easier than the Avante. The scanner is very nice and fast. And if it breaks down (electrical failure?) it turns into a locked ballot box. NO backup ballots needed. Same ballots can be used for absentee ballots. Privacy sleeves are excellent and it’s the first time I’ve seen them demonstrated. The ballots are just like multiple-choice tests- nearly everyone knows how to fill them in from school. Can’t say enough good stuff about this system. It should be easy to test with a “test deck”
Survey 4: Machine tells you about error. I like the paper ballot backup.
Survey 5: I like optical scan machines.
Survey 6: Not a NY company. I didn’t like that the ballot went page by page on the Automark. I like it all laid out in front. I think if you make a mistake with this machine you would be tempted to leave it as it’s easier than draining it. On the Automark. I liked the ballot much more then the other optical scanner.
Survey 7: The screen is not long enough to display the entire ballot at once it you need the larger font.
Survey 8: So simple and verifiable and you would need to many fewer machines than with touch screen- cost saving. Why would anybody advocate more complicated, more expensive machines that could possibly be tampered with.
Survey 9: Very simple to understand and use. Simple technology provides a very voter-friendly process and inspires more trust in having my vote verifiable accurate and permanent. Only machines needed per voting precinct makes much less costly.
Survey 10: While I like the computerized ballot on the other machine, since is uses less paper I think the process for to Automark machine is simpler and clearer for voters.
Survey 11: Concern about seeing entire slate when in large print.
Survey 12: The machine for the virtually handicapped would probably pose problems for older voters; there are a lot of steps to take.
Survey 13: Seems like an acceptable solicitation to many (most) voting problems.
Survey 14: Proprietary software systems mean votes are destined to be skewed. Keep electronic voting out Tompkins County.
Survey 15: Paper ballots ere too busy- difficult to read and mark. Rejection of under vote exposes voter to election inspector seeing vote. Difficult for elderly voters to use and understand ballot maker is ok, slow. Privacy is a real issue privacy tables were cheap and inadequate.
Survey 16: Excellent that this uses the same ballot as the Automark. Also excellent that they’ve used this machine in actual elections, since 1986. And it’s now in 44 states. NO BRAINER! Price is right too!
Survey 17: Nothing’s perfect but this is more trustful than DRE. A lot less expensive too!
Survey 18: Not clear at demo what touch screen was only for handicapped voters. Privacy booths small.
Survey 19: The privacy boots too high for sitting they need also to be adjustable. Scanner needs to be programmed to perform all functions its capable of.
Survey 20: I wish the unwritten directions on the screen were simpler. However, for the non-disability where we mark the ballot manually it is fine. HAVE PLENTY OF PAID HELP ON ELECTION DAY!
Survey 21: I like the spoken output on the Automark. Very clear
Survey 22: I very much prefer the PBOS system, please select ES&S scanner for Tompkins County.
Survey 23: I liked this ballot better; it is much simpler and doesn’t take much figuring out. The paper trail is exact and doesn’t provide opportunity for others to change your vote. I believe the integrity of the ballot is the prime consideration in choosing a system. I liked this better.
Survey 24: I would continue to worry about the possibility of hacking within the machine (well documented in other places) that could make it report wrong results. There were a few things that had to be learned and I went along such as that in 3 candidates were to be selected there are 3 write in lines. I kept scrolling down to the 1st write in line and wondering why the machine kept telling me that I had not viewed all the candidates.
Survey 25: With propositions on back, I didn’t see them instructions not clear. I saw no indication of what votes were recorded. I am confident of a manual recount.
