Rabid Fox from Buttermilk Falls State Park

On May 15, 2012, a red fox from Buttermilk Falls State Park was determined to be rabid by the New York State Rabies Laboratory.

If you or your pets have had any contact with a fox in this area on or prior to May 11, 2012, please contact the TCHD Environmental Health Division at 607-274-6688 immediately to discuss possible exposure to rabies. Press release » 

Tompkins County Ranked One of the Healthiest Communities in New York State (Apr 3 2012)

In county health rankings released today, Tompkins County was ranked the second healthiest county in New York State.  The rankings use a standard way to measure how healthy people are and how long they live. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin released the health rankings for most counties in the United States.

“The County Health Rankings help everyone see that much of what influences our health happens outside of the doctor’s office and where we live matters to our health,” said Frank Kruppa, Public Health Director. Full press release »

Onsite Sewage Treatment System Program Changes for 2012
