Spacers and Nebulizers
Spacers (Aerochambers) and nebulizers are considered durable
medical equipment. Prescription insurance rarely, if ever,
covers the cost of these supplies. However, most medical insurance
policies, including Medicaid
Health Plus, do cover the cost of two or more of these pieces
of medical equipment per year.
The pictures below illustrate how to use a spacer:
Peak Flow Meters
Peak Flow Meters are used to monitor lung capacity. They are
available in low-range for young children and full-range for
older children and adults.
Ask your medical provider to write you a separate prescription
for each of these items. If you take the prescription to
one of the four medical equipment companies in this area, they
will directly bill your insurance and you may not have any out
of pocket cost. They can pre-determine your insurance coverage
if you request it.
