Clinics FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: When will the Health Department hold flu clinics this year?
A: Clinics will be held starting October 22.
Q: Is December too late to get a flu vaccine shot?
A: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states
that while getting vaccinated in October and November is preferred,
it is not too late to get vaccinated in December
or January. During most years, influenza (flu) does not peak
until February or later. So, you will be protected by the vaccination
if you receive it in December.
Q: How long does it take for the flu shot to “start
working”?
A: It takes about 2 weeks for the immunity to develop.
Q: Is there a flu vaccination shortage this year?
A: Current vaccine supplies are adequate.
Q: Do I need an appointment in order to get a flu shot at
a health department clinic?
A: Yes, please make an appointment. Walk-ins are welcomed
during specially designated clinics, though appointments are
still preferred. See the schedule (above) for clinics where
Walk-ins are OK.
Q: Can I make an appointment online?
No. Online scheduling is not available at this time
Q: What is Guillian Barre Syndrome?
A: It is a rare syndrome that can occur following a viral
infection. It causes temporary paralysis of one side of the
body. Individuals who have had Guillian Barre syndrome should
consult their physician regarding the risks and benefits of
getting a flu shot.
